GENERATIVE DEVICE OF CONTEMPORARY FUTURES
Jorge Martín García and Isabel Gutierrez Sánchez met at the School of Architecture (ETSAM) in Madrid (Spain) twelve years ago. Throughout their academic degree they shared transformative experiences, which prompted in both a complicit understanding of architecture and urban space as political artefacts mediators of social relations and creators of political discourses. Their special interest in projects related to precarious environments, processes of self-construction and collaborative architecture matured through their joint participation in university exchange programmes in India (CEPT University, Ahmedabad), and in projects of social housing design in San Salvador (El Salvador). They have also worked together in art exhibitions, interior refurbishments, and furniture design on a freelance basis.
By the end of his architecture degree, Jorge became more interested in the field of arts as a realm from where to experiment with new tools for the construction of spatial narratives. In 2015 he started a MA in Fine Arts at University of the Arts London (Central Saint Martins).
For her part, Isabel approached anthropology also in search of new instruments to understand and represent the urban space, completing a degree at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2014 and a MSc in City Design and Social Science at the LSE in 2015. Today she is doing a PhD at the University College London.
At present, Jorge and Isabel work together in interdisciplinary projects at the crossroads of their different fields of training and expertise.
